Nate Deuel is a multi-instrumentalist, arranger, and educator based in Bozeman, Montana. Current projects include his Bozeman Symphony Orchestra debut in Gershwin's Rhapsody in Blue this May, The Music Man with Montana TheatreWorks this summer, and the world premiere of A River Runs Through It with Opera Montana in September. He won the 2024 Northwest MTNA Young Artist Competition on alto saxophone and was named runner-up in the 2025 MASO Young Artists Competition. Most recently, composer Gregory Young selected him to premiere Montana Vignettes on alto saxophone, alongside Young on clarinet and pianist Er-Hsuan Li at the 2025 MSMTA Conference.
Nate's arrangement of Robert Muczynski's Sonata for Alto Saxophone and Piano for saxophone quartet accompaniment was premiered by Dr. Wonki Lee and the MSU Saxophone Quartet at the 2024 NASA Conference in Moscow, Idaho. Other arrangements include Ennio Morricone's Gabriel's Oboe, Pantomime by Philip Sparke, Heitor Villa-Lobos's Fantasia, and The Throne Room and End Title from Star Wars, by John Williams.
A versatile presence in the pit, he covers clarinet, bass clarinet, and alto and tenor saxophones. As a performer with Bigfork Summer Playhouse, Montana TheatreWorks, and Opera Montana, his credits include Fiddler on the Roof, Grease, Annie, and Cabaret.
Maintaining a private studio in Bozeman, Nate regularly guest teaches and performs at schools across Montana. He is currently pursuing a Bachelor of Arts in Music at Montana State University, where he studies saxophone with Dr. Wonki Lee and performs in the MSU Wind Symphony and MSU Saxophone Quartet.
